  • What shall I bring?
Camera (DSLR or Mirrorless): For the work we’ll be doing, it’s essential to have a camera that can be operated entirely in manual mode. This will allow us to achieve optimal exposure in varying conditions. Additionally, a camera with interchangeable lenses is crucial, enabling us to cover a wide range of focal lengths. Lenses: Lens selection is a personal choice, but for this type of photography, I recommend bringing lenses that cover a focal range between 16mm and 300mm to handle most situations. My go-to setup includes a Sony 16-35mm, a Tamron 35-150mm, and a Tamron 50-400mm, which covers everything from wide-angle landscapes to distant details. Filters: While graduated filters aren’t mandatory, feel free to bring them if you have a set. ND filters, in particular, are useful for experimenting with long exposures. Tripod: I always recommend using a tripod for landscape photography. However, with modern camera stabilization technology, it’s becoming less essential. Some professional photographers even manage focus stacking handheld. Backpack: Since we’ll be doing some hiking, a good camera backpack is essential. Choose one that’s comfortable, lightweight, and versatile. Drone: Bringing a drone is highly recommended. The aerial perspectives, especially along the coastline, are spectacular. If you do bring one, ensure you’re comfortable with manual launch and landing, as well as navigating basic flight paths. I use a DJI Mavic 3 Pro, but even a DJI Mini is sufficient. Clothing and Footwear Waterproof and Windproof Jacket: A high-quality waterproof and windproof jacket is essential, particularly along the rugged coastline where ocean spray and sudden rain showers are common. Look for a jacket with sealed seams, adjustable cuffs, and a hood for maximum protection against the elements. Warm Layers for Cooler Evenings: Evenings can get cool, especially at higher elevations, so pack warm layers like a fleece jacket or lightweight down vest. These will keep you comfortable during sunset shoots or night photography sessions. Quick-Drying Pants: Opt for quick-drying pants made from synthetic materials or lightweight hiking trousers that offer both comfort and functionality. Footwear: While some prefer heavy hiking boots, I find that light running shoes offer better grip on the terrain we’ll be traversing. This is subjective, but it has worked well for me. Keep in mind that Faroe Islands climate can be unpredictable, especially at higher elevations, so packing the right clothing is crucial for an enjoyable experience.
